Test description

Your kidneys filter around 150 litres of blood every day. This test measures how efficiently they're removing waste and gives an overall score of kidney health.

Biomarker descriptions

Creatinine

Creatinine is a waste product from normal muscle activity, filtered out by your kidneys. Measuring it tells us how efficiently your kidneys are clearing waste from your blood.

Urea

Urea is produced when your body breaks down protein, then removed by the kidneys. Elevated urea can indicate that your kidneys aren't filtering as effectively as they should.

eGFR

Estimated glomerular filtration rate calculates how well your kidneys are filtering blood, based on creatinine levels adjusted for age and sex. It's the single best overall measure of kidney function.
